Day...8? Really?

Hey everyone!

Yes, it’s been 8 days of hard work on our project. Since we have last posted, we’ve come a loooooong way. After finishing the CMU layer, we set in the rebar, attached the wood studs to the rebar, added allllll the other wood framing for the rest of the structure, and added a layer of Durock to our wall. Here are some photos of our progress!

So, this last photo shows what we finished at the end of the day today, but doesn’t show the other things we’ve gotten done, such as painting the top sheets of the roof, digging trenches (so much, oh my god, we are tired), setting up electricity and steelwork, and last but not least… team bonding!

Over the course of our first week here, we got hit in the face with many different types of challenges. Thankfully, our team members have a lot of trust and support from one another so we’ve got a strong morale to get us through everything. When you add up the jokes, the long talks, the stress, the laughs, and everything else that this project has thrown at us, it really feels awesome to be a part of a team with very unique and wonderful personalities.

Also, apart from just the physical labor we’ve done, we have gotten to explore a little bit of Antigua! Here’s a few fun photos:

Special shoutout to everyone back home that’s made this project possible. We are definitely keeping our supporters in mind and are, everyday, in awe of how real this idea has become for us.

Fingers crossed that we finish the walls, roof, plumbing, and electrical connections by the end of the week! Wish us luck!
